Larynx Cancer
Cancer of the larynx represents the most common cancer of the head and neck (besides skin cancer) and is mainly diagnosed among men who smoke cigarettes and consume alcohol. It usually develops after age 60 and men are ten times more likely than women to develop cancer of the larynx. It often begins in the vocal cords. Such cancers can metastasize (spread) and attack a lymph node. The most common cancers of the esophagus are squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma. They appear as a narrowing of the organ, a lump or even an abnormal flat area. The most deadly form of esophagus cancer results in blockage of the patientıs ability to breathe. They are twice as likely to occur in men than in women. Heavy smokers and alcohol drinkers, usually between the ages of 50 and 60, are at greatest risk.
